Welcome to the Hummingbird Capital of the United States! That's how I'm going to start greeting people new to Sierra Vista. ;)
Hmmmm... Maybe we should add that to our signs when you enter SV, too? As of this past Thursday, we made it official by unanimously approving a resolution proclaiming Sierra Vista the Hummingbird Capital of the United States. I can't think of a better way to end the year, a year that has been difficult for so many. During which, the local hummingbirds became a sign of hope in our community. These little hummingbirds travel great distances every year, always returning to Sierra Vista. They've become a symbol of hope and resilience while reminding us of the brighter days ahead. And now that we've made it official locally, the next step will be seeing that Sierra Vista is recognized at the State level as being the Hummingbird Capital of the United States.
These past couple of meetings were long ones. And it was also Council Member Gwen Calhoun's and Council Member Kristine Wolfe's last work session and meeting. Both of whom have been incredible mentors to me. I greatly admire their dedication to a life of public service, and I strive to emulate their commitment in my own public service journey. It’s been a tremendous honor to serve on council with both of them. I have so much gratitude for all they've taught me and all they've done, but the ultimate beneficiary of their service is the people of Sierra Vista. I truly believe our little city is a better place because of their service and dedication. I will miss working with both of them on council but look forward to working with Dr. Angelica Landry and Gregory L. Johnson starting next month.
We should be getting dates soon on when we'll be meeting for our strategic planning session and I'm excited to work on that with my fellow councilmembers and Mayor.
