The first video below includes the Special Meeting we had to approve the allocation of funds the City is receiving through the CARES Act and our regularly scheduled Work Session. This is our first time meeting in person since April, and so you'll notice the council is spread out to adhere to social distancing guidelines and in-person attendance by the public was (and continues to be) suspended. While watching these recordings, I was reminded of how excited I am that our current budget includes a new recording system in the council chambers. To be blunt, the 2nd video can be frustrating to listen to because the sound quality is THAT bad. As always, if there is a particular item you really want to hear, you can use the timestamp link and jump straight to that part of the meeting without listening to the rest.
I'm excited to share that the City Council arrived at a consensus for the "Boardway" design concept for the Fry Forward project. Boardway is somewhat of a hybrid between the public's chosen winner, Boardwalk, and the water harvesting component from the Parkway design. Seeing the City move forward with the redevelopment of Fry Blvd. is one of the reasons I ran for council in the first place. This is a crucial step in seeing our historic core become the downtown and first impression Sierra Vista wants, needs, and deserves. Moving this forward fills my heart with so much joy. To make it even better, on the front page of the Herald/Review this week, the headline read "Advance to Boardway", which I love and find very fitting. Especially since it included a picture of our own "official nosy neighbor," Rosie Mackey, former West End Commission Chair, and someone who has been an outspoken supporter and active participant in improving the West End well before I even called Sierra Vista home.
The West End residents should not be the only ones rejoicing in this. A rising tide lifts all boats, and this tide will be beneficial for all the people in Sierra Vista.
(Yeah, they are published on Fridays now.)

Links to agendas, presentations, and other supporting documents for our Work Session and Meeting next week are now on the Sierra Vista website.
Some of the bigger items on next week's agenda include officially re-establishing several of the Council Commissions into Departmental Commissions (no longer fall under Council but instead a specific department in the City). This item will be discussed at the work session and be considered for approval on Thursday.
Council will also be receiving a presentation on development fees (some call them impact fees) and will be continuing our discussion on their reinstatement.
It's important to note that because of COVID-19 the meetings are still not open to the general public, but there is a call-in number on the agendas if you want to listen on Tuesday or listen and/or comment on Thursday.
Staff informed Council this week that there will be a slight delay to the budget books because of a last-minute balancing that happened this week. Council will receive the tentative budget on Wednesday and then we will start by scheduling our one-on-one meetings with staff to discuss its contents.
It is sad not to have our normal Memorial Day services this year, but I'm happy to share that there will be a Memorial Day Ceremony streamed to Souther Arizona Veteran's Memorial Facebook page and YouTube on Monday, May 25th at 9 AM. More information can be found here.
With that, I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend! And of course, please do not hesitate to reach out. I'm here to serve you.
Your council member,
