May 2021 at City Hall (1st Half)

Updated: May 18, 2021

Before we get into this week's meeting, I wanted to mention the exciting news that Sierra Vista is Officially the Hummingbird Capital of Arizona! I'm so grateful to former Councilmember Gwen Calhoun for coming up with the idea of pursuing an official title for our special city, and to Judy Hector, our City's Marketing and Public Affairs Manager for gathering all the key points we needed to make our case for the official designation, and our Representative Gail Griffin for sponsoring the bill and making sure the legislation made it to the Governor's desk. Governor Ducey signed the legislation on May 12th, making it official!

I'm so happy to hear that the 4th of July is back on! That means the Midday Ceremony and other annual activities in Veterans Memorial Park will resume this year. The fireworks display will also once again feature both a ground and aerial display, with attendees welcome to get up close by viewing the show from the sports fields along Tacoma Drive or to view from afar at their favorite spots throughout the community.

Also, the item for the JP5 Court Agreement was removed from the agenda because Cochise County asked for additional time to review it. Hopefully, we'll be seeing it on the agenda for the first week of June.
