August 2022 at City Hall and on the Campaign Trail

Updated: Sep 21, 2022

Before jumping in to this month's review, I want to let all of you know how thankful I am for all the support you've shown me along the way! I couldn't do this without you! With the ballot officially set, we are counting down to the big day! At the time of this post, August 30, 2022, we are just 70 days away from the General Election on November 8th. I've started collecting donations, and distributing yard signs. If you would like to support the campaign in anyway, please check out the updated Support Umphrey for Sierra Vista page! Any help us greatly appreciated.

Now I will start this month's summary with the exciting news of our newest member to join our city council, Marta Messmer! Marta was officially appointed to the Sierra Vista City Council on August 11th. This was after receiving 11 applications and interviewing 4 of the applicants earlier in the month. And let me just say, this was not an easy decision, as each of the candidates displayed exemplary qualities. After the interviews, I felt the Council was left in the very fortunate position of not being able to make a bad decision. I'm confident we made a great one! I feel full of gratitude when I think about all the amazing people willing to serve in our community and who took the time to apply and interview for the vacant council seat. We really do have a thoughtful, service-minded community. Our annual City Spotlight was on on Tuesday, August 9th and gave our hard working staff the opportunity to share updates on recent accomplishments and plans for the future of our little City with over 100 people in attendance. For those who could not attend, the presentation slides are available online as well as the video of our department heads each presenting projects and plans for their department in the City.

Other events I had the privilege to this month were the Women's Equality Day Fort Huachuca, the Mayor/Manager Luncheon in Benson, the Veteran Stand Down, Business at Twilight at the Herald/Review Media's building, and I also had the pleasure of giving city updates to the Sunrise Rotary and San Pedro Kiwanis.
