Carolyn's love of Sierra Vista started in 2006 when her husband, Tim Umphrey, was stationed at Fort Huachuca to conclude five years of service in the United States Army. They quickly fell in love with the community, weather, and mountain views. Even though Carolyn was born in the Midwest and raised on the East Coast, she considers Sierra Vista her home. She and her husband chose to return to Sierra Vista and make it our forever home in 2008, and now they are raising two little Sierra Vistans in the heart of this wonderful city, the West End.
Currently, Carolyn serves as the Chair of the Sierra Vista Metropolitan Planning Organization, as the Vice Chair for the Upper San Pedro Partnership, as a board member for the Rural Transportation Advocacy Council, a board member for SEAGO, as a member of the Military Communities Council for the National League of Cities, and acting council liaison for the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Carolyn Umphrey was first elected to the Sierra Vista City Council in 2018 and prides herself on putting community priorities first. In 2023, Carolyn was appointed Mayor Pro Tem at the start of her second term.
Carolyn believes that when you love something, you take care of it, which is why she ran for Sierra Vista City Council, to take care of the people and place she loves.
